What is Veterinary Rehabilitation?
Physical Therapy and therapeutic exercises have been a very important part of human rehabilitative medicine for a long time. They are valuable tools in the treatment of conservatively or surgically managed orthopedic injuries, neurological problems, illness, trauma, arthritis, obesity, and other problems. We use similar techniques to help animals recover from many of the same conditions.
There are a number of therapies that can be utilized. Among them are acupuncture, chiropractic, medications, supplements, underwater treadmill, laser therapy, electric stimulation therapy, ultrasound therapy, massage, reiki, and therapeutic exercise. Using agility techniques, theraband limb work, exercise balls and balance and proprioception equipment, we can work with the animal and owner to design a Home Therapeutic Exercise Prescription that will work best for them.
Dr. Joe Whalen offers a full range of Veterinary Rehabilitation services at Chicago Animal Rehab or CARE. For your initial appointment, we recommend that you call LeParAnimalHospital at (708) 423-3200. The computers between LePar and CARE are linked so that an appointment made at LePar will instantly show up on the screen at CARE. If you have more questions about Veterinary Rehab please call CARE at (708) 576-2801. Since we are usually involved in therapies at CARE, you may need to leave a message, but we will get back to you as soon as possible.
We strongly encourage our first time customers to fill out our First Visit Form. By filling out this form, CARE staff can dedicate the entire time of your first session to discussing and treating your pet's conditions.
